Consumer uptake of 3D hardware continues apace, with the market on track to achieve 157.7 million 3DTV sales in 2017, up from a forecast of 59.3 million for 2013, according to a new report from Futuresource Consulting.

Italian local TV channels Telecapri and TCN-TeleCapriNews have started technical tests of anaglyph 3D, a three-dimensional technology visible on all TV sets.

The tests will serve to optimise the broadcasting and transmission technology and sites and acquaint viewers with the procedures. The 3D programmes are transmitted on Telecapri (DTT channel 76) at 08:50 and on TCN-TeleCapriNews (DTT channel 74) at 14.30, 16.30 and 21.30 hours.

To watch the 3D programmes, viewers must use new anaglyph glasses (a new version of the old two-colour glasses, designed in Italy, but produced elsewhere), at a cost of €0.90. The glasses are distributed in local stores.

Seminole grants IZON $400000 to produce 3-D televisions in Lake Mary

Posted on 10 Sep 2013 at 10:10AM

Seminole County commissioners on Tuesday gave $400,000 in incentives to a Longwood company that plans to make glasses-free 3-D televisions, a technology that industry experts say is not yet ready for the mass market.

The unanimous approval came less than a week after Lake Mary commissioners rejected giving $400,000 to the same company, IZON LLC, saying they were not confident IZON could produce the TVs.

The terms of the incentives package require IZON to hire 400 people to produce the TVs in a Seminole County factory. The jobs would be mostly assembly-line workers paid an average of $37,000 annually, or 95 percent of Seminole's average pay.

Xiaomi, like all the other makers that came before, faces an almost insurmountable problem: the availability of good quality content i…
